TO VERIFY ARCHIMEDES' PRINCIPLE

OBJECTIVE: TO VERIFY ARCHIMEDES' PRINCIPLE

MATERIALS REQUIRED
1. Spring balance                 2. Measuring cylinder
3. Water trough                   4. A piece of thread
5. A piece of stone

THEORY
Archimedes Principle states ‘‘when a body is immersed partially or completely in fluid, it experiences an apparent loss in weight due to upthrust which is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by it.
Let weight of a body in air = W1
Weight of the body in water = W2
Loss in weight of the body (W3) = W1 - W2
Weight of displaced water by the body = W4
Loss in weight of the body = weight of displaced liquid
i.e.                     W3 = W4
OBSERVATION
Let weight of a body in air (W1) = ………..
Weight of the body in water (W2) = ………..
Loss in wt of the body  = ……….. - ………..
    = ………..
Weight of displaced water by the body (W4) = ……….
Loss in weight of the body = weight of displaced liquid
i.e.                     W3 = W4
Instrumental Error : ……………

CONCLUSION
During the experiment we verified Archimedes' principle.
